Hi, I'm Tiffany Carthy, MSC APP, dip cbh
Unrelieved chronic pain can cause considerable suffering, physical limitations, and emotional distress. Hypnosis is a proven way of controlling and reducing pain. Hypnotherapy for pain management and Hypnosis for pain relief has been shown to be highly effective in providing symptomatic relief for joint pain, neck pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, neuropathy and a variety of other injuries and pain related illness.
Hypnotherapy for pain relief helps to change the way we perceive pain messages in order to reduce the intensity of what we are feeling. A common misconception is that a hypnotherapist will try to convince you that your pain doesn’t exist. Far from it, hypnosis isn’t about convincing you that you don’t feel pain; it’s about helping you manage fear and anxiety related to pain. It relaxes you, and it redirects your attention from the sensation of pain. The body has the ability to produce its own painkillers called endorphins and encephalins. The key to increasing these is a relaxed mind and body. I will help to train you to experience relaxation through hypnosis and relaxation training which can accelerates the body’s natural healing abilities and relieves stress and tension, leading to greater comfort levels. You will also be taught how to use self-hypnosis to be able to practice pain reducing techniques so that you will be able to continue using these natural drug-free pain management skills in your daily life.

Hypnosis for pain relief and IBS hypnotherapy is of increasing interest to medical doctors who are now more frequently referring patients for hypnotherapy due to the increasing scientific evidence of its efficacy. Studies have found that hypnotherapy can be more effective than other psychological treatments, such as supportive counselling, CBT, physical therapy or educational programmes. Many of the clients I have seen for pain management and IBS have experienced transformative results.
“Whatever positive changes you want to make in your life, acceptance of how and where you are at the present moment is one of the keys to moving forward.” – Pain Recovery: How to Find Balance and Reduce Suffering from Chronic Pain.
Recognising that the mind and body are closely related, the medical profession are increasingly recommending hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis to manage acute and chronic pain along with many other health problems. There is growing evidence that hypnotherapy can help to manage pain both chronic and acute. A meta-analysis found that hypnosis interventions consistently produce significant decreases in pain associated with a variety of chronic-pain problems.
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is predominantly triggered by anxiety and stress and can have a significant impact on quality of life. On average 1 in 5 people develop IBS, with symptoms including stomach pain, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. Relaxation techniques and hypnotherapy have been proven to be very effective at treating the symptoms of IBS. Teaching you the techniques to reduce stress and anxiety can have a great improvement on IBS symptoms along with assessing any lifestyle changes that could benefit the treatment. Hypnotherapy techniques can often bring profound and even permanent gut and digestive changes within your body if practised regularly, helping you to be symptom free.
Several studies now point to hypnotherapy as a way to bring significant and lasting relief from symptoms, especially for those people who haven’t responded to other treatments. A study in patients with abdominal pain and irritable bowel syndrome showed that 68 per cent of those treated with six sessions of medical hypnotherapy over three months were still in remission after at least four years, compared to 20 per cent of the group treated with standard medical treatment.
Hypnotherapy typically helps with the management of pain and to relieve IBS in just 4-8 sessions depending on your requirements.
*Note – the cause of pain needs to be diagnosed by a qualified medical doctor so the first course of action is visit your GP.

Each session is 90 minutes in duration. In my experience the standard 50-60 minute sessions do not give us enough time. 90 minutes allows us to make significant progress while shortening the overall number of sessions required, allowing you to experience change in a shorter period of time. I set each of my clients’ short exercises in-between our sessions to accelerate the process of change. Sessions can take place at my offices in London or online. Both are equally as effective.
The fee is £95 per session. Sessions are most effective on a weekly basis but can be fortnightly if preferred. If you are open, committed to the process and ready to change you can experience life changing results.
I operate a 48 hour cancellation policy or full appointment fee is due. Care details are required to confirm your booking. These are kept securely on an encrypted system.
