ALL of you is welcome here. All parts of you, all feelings, all thoughts. This is a place to be seen, to be heard, to be witnessed and to be welcomed with acceptance and compassion.
Everything about you makes sense, even though parts of you may be struggling to accept yourself as you are. You are not alone in struggling with low self-confidence, anxiety, depression, addictions, painful beliefs, emotions and feeling stuck. This all makes sense when you have gone through difficulties in your life. After difficult life experiences and trauma we can find ourselves automatically operating in survival mode. This is not a conscious choice that we make, this is our bodies way of protecting us. Living in survival mode can leave us feeling confused, stuck, powerless and ashamed. You are not alone and I’m here to tell you that there is hope.
Trauma informed therapy offers you a space to gain insight in to what you are experiencing and to explore and find ways of healing that work for you. It’s a space to connect with someone who understands how trauma effects the mind and the body and who can guide you in your healing journey. Trauma informed therapy can provide a warm, compassionate and collaborative approach that focuses on creating a safe place to share, to be witnessed and to be your authentic self without judgement. It’s a place to empower and support you every step of the way.
As a trauma informed therapist I offer support in helping you to connect to and heal your inner world, giving you a new relationship with yourself. My approach is not to go over traumatic past events, but to bring awareness to how they may be effecting your life in the present and to facilitate repair, corrective experiences and healing. We don’t just talk – I guide you in experiential healing.
My approach to therapy is person centred and non-pathologising. I believe that you are the expert in you and I encourage collaboration and feedback in our work together. Feedback enables us to refine and reflect on what is working for you and to take a flexible approach to ensure your needs are being met.
My training is in Internal Family Systems, Compassion Focused Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Polyvagal Therapy, Attachment Focused Therapy, Complex PTSD and Post Traumatic Growth. I am currently deepening my training to gain UKCP registration as an integrative psychotherapist.
If you are looking for trauma informed support then I’d be honoured to connect with you to discuss your needs.
“Daring greatly means the courage to be vulnerable. It means to show up and be seen. To ask for what you need. To talk about how you’re feeling. To have the hard conversations.” — Brené Brown
It’s not easy to admit we are struggling and it takes incredible courage to seek support on our healing journey. I want to take a moment to recognise your strength and bravery for simply being here, for coming this far and for considering seeking support. I have been through my own personal healing journey after struggling for many years with chronic low self-confidence, depression, anxiety, turbulent relationships and addictions. It took me time and support to understand that the personal challenges I was experiencing were linked to unresolved traumas in my past. I came to understand that I was living in survival mode.
After spending 15 years working as a television producer, five years ago I decided to go back to university to re-train to become a therapist. This career change was spurred on after experiencing a break down, what I now refer to as a break through. My dad had been diagnosed with leukemia, I was then diagnosed with breast cancer and I couldn’t ‘hold it together’ anymore as I had to slow down and could no longer rely on my usual keeping busy coping strategies. I read the book ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ and it was as though someone had switched on a lightbulb in the darkness. Suddenly my experience began to make sense. I found hope. I left my stressful 24/7 job and went to therapy. With the support of some incredible therapists I experienced profound healing and self acceptance. I’m a firm believer that we are all different and that different approaches work for different people, and for me I found healing using a combination of internal family systems therapy, self compassion practices, hypnotherapy, yoga, breathwork and Muay Thai self defence training. Trauma informed practices have been life changing for me and I felt called to re-train as a trauma informed practitioner.
I also volunteer and work with cancer and hospice charities providing therapeutic support to those living with cancer and to their caregivers. This is another area close to my heart after going through breast cancer myself and coming from a family with numerous generations of cancer on both sides. If you are interested in understanding more about how trauma effects the body and the immune system I highly recommend the book ‘When the Body Says No’ by Gabor Mate.
I am also an ambassador for the charity Wave Trust where I advocate and work towards the prevention of childhood adversity and trauma.
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style” – Maya Angelou
I am a registered member of The National Society of Talking Therapies and a trainee member of the UKCP
Each session is 60 – 90 minutes in duration depending on your needs and energy during the session. In my experience sometimes the standard 50-60 minute sessions do not give us enough time to do the deep work required so I aim to be flexible. I set each of my clients’ short experiential practices in-between our sessions to deepen the process of healing. It is your choice as to whether you choose to do the practices outside of the session, but I strongly encourage you to experiment and get curious outside of our work together. I currently conduct all of my sessions online via zoom or via telephone if preferred.
The fee is £80 per session. Sessions are most effective on a weekly basis but can be fortnightly if preferred.
*I offer a discounted rate to low income, unemployed, students and to those living with cancer.
I operate a 24 hour cancellation policy.
