My approach to therapy is integrative, person centred and non-pathologising. I believe that you are the expert in you and I encourage collaboration and feedback in our work together. Feedback enables us to refine and reflect on what is working for you and to take a flexible approach to ensure your needs are being met.
Our therapy together focuses on holding a supportive, non judgmental space to explore your inner world. Empowering you in bringing healing to the root cause of the symptoms you are experiencing, reconnecting you to your calm, confident, courageous, compassionate and connected Self. Finding safety and connection within your body, present day experiences and relationships with others.
Welcoming all of you, recognising the gifts you bring into the world and allowing your authentic self to emerge and thrive.
It is a privilege to guide others on their healing journey. If you are looking for support then I’d be honoured to connect with you to discuss your needs.
“Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside us” – Gabor Mate
Trauma can be defined as anything that was too intense for our nervous system to process in the moment. It’s important to note that only you can say whether or not something was traumatic for you.
Trauma and Complex PTSD can result in us struggling with a range of symptoms including overwhelming emotions, low self esteem, anxiety, depression, self criticism, shame and relationship difficulties. All of these survival strategies make perfect sense when we have experienced traumatic events and are living in survival mode. Trauma informed therapy enables us to heal the root cause of the symptoms we experience.
Below is a short video giving a basic overview of how trauma and chronic stress affects our nervous system and how those effects impact our mental health and wellbeing.
“Daring greatly means the courage to be vulnerable. It means to show up and be seen. To ask for what you need. To talk about how you’re feeling. To have the hard conversations” — Brené Brown
I am just another human being on my own personal healing journey. I’ve been sat where you are with my own therapist and I know the courage it takes to turn towards our own suffering and make a commitment to healing. I want to take a moment to recognise your courage for simply being here, for coming this far and for considering seeking support. I have personally found Internal Family Systems Therapy to be transformational, which is why I went onto train in IFS and offer this within my practice. For me it’s a genuine privilege to guide others on their therapy journey. I have experienced first hand that inner healing is possible and it would be an honour to guide and support you.
I consider myself very lucky to live on the beautiful Isle of Wight. Since I began my own healing I have started to rediscover some of the things in life that bring my joy. My joys include connecting with dear friends, spending time with my gorgeous cat, dancing, singing, making candles and natural lotions and potions, foraging for wild foods, going for walks on the beach and connecting with nature and spirituality.
I also volunteer and work with cancer charities providing therapeutic support to those living with cancer and to their caregivers. This is another area close to my heart after going through breast cancer myself and coming from a family with numerous generations of cancer on both sides. If you are interested in reading more about how trauma can effect the body and the immune system I highly recommend the book ‘When the Body Says No’ by Gabor Mate. I have also worked as an ambassador for the charity Wave Trust. They advocate and work towards the prevention of childhood adversity and trauma. Check them out if you’re interested – they do fantastic work.
